I recently saw the videos (posted below) from The Jono Project – Food in a Nek Minnit, and I know what you must be thinking – far out that’s so old, it was posted last month. I lose cool points on being a few weeks behind! :(
Anyway, for the people that don’t know anything about Nek Minnit and why the phrase and video turned into a viral/parody hit on Twitter and Facebook check out the original video here:

What’s interesting to me is that on the Know Your Meme website it has the following description about the Nek Minnut video.
Nek Minnit (alternatively Negg Minute or Nek Minute) is a video clip of New Zealand street skater Levi Hawken  talking about a broken scooter in a heavy, faked accent.

I read this and thought to myself what is this heavy faked accent called? Is it Hori, Maori, Kiwi, Billy T James, New Zealand, Country, Hick – what is the actual name of this accent and can anyone share their thoughts on what they think it is? Surely all Kiwi’s know how to do this accent if not naturally or in a playful way – what do you call it?

Here’s a video I stumbed upon today about the Protect IP Act which just opens up all these questions about the internet and censorship.

PROTECT-IP is the latest piece of legislation aiming to chip away at your online rights in the name of protecting the entertainment industry’s business model. They tried to ban the VCR and the 1st mp3 players. Now they want to break the internet. This is what the Protect IP Act is.

What do you think of this legislation?

Check out this awesome video created by The Gag Quartet which has 40 memes in one song.
I can’t even count all 40, can you?

What is a meme?

The Gag Quartet - Le Internet - 40 memes in 1 song

According to the Urban Dictionary it is:
1 : an idea, belief or belief system, or pattern of behavior that spreads throughout a culture either vertically by cultural inheritance (as by parents to children) or horizontally by cultural acquisition (as by peers, information media, and entertainment media)

If you want to know more about memes check out one of my favourite sites called Know Your Meme -a website dedicated to documenting Internet phenomena: viral videos, image macros, catchphrases, web celebs and more.
